#18 AWS for Everyone: Introducing Amazon U to Accelerate Cloud Innovation
Democratizing the Cloud with Gen AI
As every week, I become a PM of a product and identify a problem, this week I choose Product Manager @ AWS
One of my favorite Cloud platforms in market because of two reasons
AWS Cloud is for all business sizes
Relentless optimization in it’s services
I have been building products on AWS for a couple of years now and recently when I am working on my Masters project, I realized there is a vast catalog of AWS offerings through different services and each of them has it’s own potential.
So I started reading about different services and understanding what’s the best suited for my requirements.
after spending 30min I couldn’t get clarity or confidence whether I’m selecting right services to get my product successfully launched.
That’s where the need of “Amazon U” popped in my mind.
Problem Statement
Navigating the vast and complex world of AWS services brings a significant challenge for many users. Despite the wealth of options and configurations available, individuals and teams frequently encounter challenges in selecting the right services to match their product’s needs.
It increases their learning curve without proper focus as they might be lost in figuring out what is best for their product.
After reaching a point in development, they found another service which can help them so they need to pivot or start again.
There is a constant insecure feeling of if I am building right and I’m destined to success or not.
As an innovator, your focus should be on building the best and shouldn’t waste time on focusing which cloud service is best and cloud infra should be already at its best.
Today, there are some managed services already on AWS like Elastic Beanstalk where we can choose whether our app is on Node, React etc.., and accordingly it will setup a base template along with EC2 instances.
But we can do better than that!
Introducing Amazon U
Amazon U leverages Generative AI to simplify the AWS journey, offering a user-friendly interface where individuals can describe their product in natural language. Amazon U instantly recommends the optimal set of AWS services and, with user approval, automatically deploys and configures them.
You just need to explain what’s your project goal, requirements, budget in simple natural language.
Amazon U understands and analyzes from 1000s of successful projects running on AWS, and instantly suggests you with a personalized AWS Cloud services for your product requirements and goals.
You don’t even need to wait for some customer support or cloud consultants because AWS’s expertise is directly serving your needs in the form of Amazon U.
Why Now?
Building products is faster now more than ever before because of Gen AI and the level of understanding it has from the natural language of users (at least in English for now).
As an innovator, I should not be limited by the knowledge of knowing something or learning that — which delays the innovation I have in mind.
Fail Super Fast — It’s 2024, you build in hours, test, get feedback and fail and do it again.
Leverage the signal from the noise of 100s of cloud services.
Who Can Benefit?
Optimistically, everyone in the world with internet access.
Amazon has always been the center of customers’ needs and today, where English is the new AI and prompting is the new coding, you should not be limited by the knowledge you have not gained yet.
An 8th grader who doesn’t completely understand cloud could run their own Cloud Product on AWS with the help of Amazon U by your side.
An enthusiastic start up team who doesn’t know what AWS service can be used where, they can focus on their idea with the best cloud infra and services is being taken care by Amazon U.
More beginners in cloud computing are encouraged to develop in less time with the best knowledge personalized to their requirements and ideas.
Conclusion
U for Users
You are only limited by your imagination but not your knowledge.
From beginners to seasoned developers, Amazon U makes starting with AWS intuitive and straightforward, lowering barriers to innovation.
Strengthens AWS's market position as the most accessible, user-friendly cloud platform, encouraging broader adoption and fostering a vibrant community of innovators.
By empowering users to effortlessly navigate the cloud ecosystem, we're not just simplifying technology — we're opening doors to new possibilities.
Launching on AWS Marketplace: A Strategic First Step
To ensure Amazon U reaches its full potential from the outset, I propose launching it first on the AWS Marketplace. This approach allows us to directly engage with AWS's vibrant community, gathering invaluable feedback and validating the demand for Amazon U in a real-world setting.
Leveraging the Marketplace's extensive reach and built-in trust, we can accelerate adoption, refine our offering based on user insights, and demonstrate early success.
This strategic step not only aligns with AWS’s core value of customer obsession but also sets the stage for Amazon U’s broader impact, creating the way for its evolution into an essential capability for cloud innovation accessible to all.
This does not apply only to AWS Cloud, but also to Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud as well because, the more we democratize the cloud capabilities the more we can unlock new doors of opportunities.
Just as what Gen AI did in AI by making it accessible to everyone, what if we do the same in Cloud computing?
What I enjoyed watching this week?
1️⃣ If you have watched movie “Her”, you definitely cannot miss this demo from
Open Interpreter — they are combining AI with Operating System
This literally blew my mind after Chat GPT
2️⃣ Recently, I installed open-source LLM model on my Mac and trying it in local and it’s crazy to see it in action. The size of LLM models varies from 4 GB to 40GB and I’m experimenting with different ways
I found this Jan.ai company who is providing beautiful interface instead of chatting on Terminal, if you are interested, it’s worth trying out, will share a full edition soon how it goes on my machine.
That’s a wrap for this week’s edition.
